Sara and her band know first hand how important music and art education really is. Like most musicians, each of them found their love of music at a young age through the public school system, and will readily admit they wouldn’t be here if it weren’t for that one person who showed them the beauty of this art form. This is why the band is happy and eager to speak to as many young people as possible, to talk about their experiences thus far, and to pass along their love of music.
So, amidst a hectic schedule of performing and promotion, Sara and the guys have made it their priority to be available for clinics and workshops at various education levels. The clinics range in topic from jazz basics, jazz choir feedback, improvisation, arranging, solo singing/band leading, jazz education, and more. Sara takes great pride in adapting the workshops to the needs and wants of the students involved.
Educational Festivals in which Sara and the band have participated include the Reno International Jazz Festival (NV), the Sitka Jazz Festival (AK), the Lionel Hampton Jazz Festival (Moscow, ID), the Port Townsend Jazz Festival (WA), the Frank DeMiero Jazz Festival (Edmonds, WA), the Oceanside Jazz Festival (CA), the Cuesta College Jazz Festival (CA), and the Fullerton College Jazz Festival (CA). Sara and her group have also held clinics at Roosevelt High School (Seattle, WA), San Francisco State University (San Francisco, CA), University Of The Arts (Philadelphia, PA), The Berklee School Of Music (Boston, MA), The University of Southern California (Los Angeles, CA), the Music College Hanover (Hanover, Germany) and Hochschule für Musik und Tanz (Cologne, Germany).
Sara is currently on faculty at the University of Southern California, leading the award-winning vocal jazz ensemble and teaching privately.
